Helpful Info for Students during our Close Down Period

Tēnā koe

Te Tira Ahu Pae is closed from the 17th December until Wednesday 8th January 2025.

If your communication requires a response, this will be actioned on our return.

For general information on our services please refer to our website Te Tira Ahu Pae.

The University will also be closed from December 20th, reopening on Monday the 6th of January. During this time all university services will be shut and you will hopefully be taking a break from studies also. All university services will be operating over summer semester other than between these dates.

We have compiled some tips which we hope will help you through this time otherwise be assured that most things can be resolved once we return on the 8th of January.

If you cannot access any of the university websites or portals and this impacts your course work by not being able to access course materials, reliable references, or submission boxes you should email your course coordinator politely explaining the situation and exactly how it is impacting your ability to work and potentially offer a solution. For example, you can email a finished assignment to your lecturer to show it was done on time and they can run it through Turnitin later on, or you may request a few days extension to complete your assignment in hopes it becomes available.

If you require an extension and haven’t heard back from your course coordinator. If you have a very good reason for needing an extension just assume you have been awarded a few days grace and turn it in as soon as you can. Advocacy services can help if the request is subsequently denied. Just a note that too much festive celebrating or too many days at the beach/festivals do not count! If you are applying for a Minor Hardship Grant, this also will not be processed until we return after 8th January.

Any Studylink issues will unfortunately need to go through their help centre, though you may find the information on this page helpful: Christmas and New Year pay dates and office hours - StudyLink

For most course related issues your course coordinator should be your first contact, however, keep in mind that they will be on leave while the university is shut.

If a resolution is not found or you require assistance from our Advocacy Service, please complete the “Request Help” form from the website and an advocate will contact you when we return.

Happy New Year and enjoy your holidays!
